What Makes a Yoga CPD Worth Doing?
A Checklist Before You Book.
New CPD courses land in your inbox every week. New certifications, new specialisms, new "must have" trainings. It's a lot to weigh up, especially when you're spending your own time and money.
So how do you know, before you book, whether a CPD is actually worth doing? After training hundreds of yoga teachers over the years, here are 5 things I check for.
Accreditation. Is it recognised by a body like Yoga Alliance Professionals? That's what makes the hours count towards your CPD, and means someone's actually reviewed the training syllabus before it reaches you.
Leadership. Who's teaching it, and how do they support the people in the room? Past students have told me the post-course support meant as much as anything they learned in the room itself. That tells you more than a list of qualifications ever could.
Career development. Will this open up a genuinely new way for you to teach, or just sit in a drawer? The best CPD gives you something practical to walk away with, not just another line on your CV.
Serving your community. Who's currently underserved by the classes on offer near you? Toddlers, older adults, prenatal groups. A good CPD doesn't just add to your own skill set, it lets you reach people who don't currently have access to yoga.
Support beyond the final day. Training that ends the moment the course finishes leaves you to figure the rest out alone. Look for CPD that keeps supporting you once you're standing in front of a real class.
None of these five things are complicated on their own. But together, they're a useful filter for anything landing in your inbox this year.
If serving an underserved community is what's calling to you, toddlers are one of the most rewarding places to start. I've put together a free guide covering why toddler yoga is such rewarding teaching, what a class actually looks like, and how to add it to your own teaching career.
